Contacting the university: A roadmap

Contacting such a big organization such as the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) and our faculty the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) can be very challenging at times. Where do you have to go with your particular question or issue? And how can you contact them? This page will guide you with the appropreate department to contact. 

Category I: Personal Questions or Issues

University Psychologists (EUR*)

You can contact the university psychologists if you have study issues and psychological, social and/or emotional problems that are hindering your study progress. If the university psychologists are unable to offer you the support you need, they will refer you to other external support agencies. There are several appointments you can make:

  • Open consultation hour: You can briefly discuss your symptoms to decide together with the psychologist whether it would be worthwhile to refer you to the university psychologists.
  • General Intake: In a General intake your problems, symptoms, background and needs will be discussed to decide what further support is needed. 
  • Groups & workshops: For enrolment in a group, you schedule an appointment for an intake interview to decide whether participation in such a group would be beneficial for you. 
  • PhD psychologist: For PhD's a PhD psychologist is available.

Student Advisor

You can contact a student advisor for advice regarding study related issues:

Study progress (Binding Stuy Advice, entry requirements, study strategies etc.)
Personal circumstances affecting your studies
Studying with a functional impairment (Dyslexia, AD(H)D,…)
Questions about elective courses, double degree, etc.

Confidential Counsellors (EUR*)

The Confidential Counsellors serve as the contact person for anyone who has been confronted with unwanted behaviour or unequal treatment in their study or work environment. Unwanted behaviour includes: Harassment (sexual or otherwise), aggressive behaviour and/or violence, teasing, stalking, unequal stalking.

Confidants of Cedo Nulli

You can contact the Confidant of Cedo Nulli with any problems/ issues you have either within the study association or outside of it. The Confidant will help you as well as they can or they are able to redirect you to the right person from the faculty.

The Education Officer of Cedo Nulli is an important person in several student representation departments within the ESSB. They can redirect any opinions, ideas or complaints you have.

Front Office

You can contact the Front Office for questions related to your course schedule, group compositions, missing results, exams and other administrative matters. 

The opening hours are: 

  • Monday through wednesday: 09.30-12.00 and 12.30-14.00
  • Thursday reachable through phone only. 
  • Friday: closed

Student Counsellors (EUR*)

The student counsellors can help you with:

  • Legal issues: Questions and/or problems involving regulations and statutory provisions. This could include questions regarding your legal position and Dutch legislation
  • Personal study-related issues: Study progress (e.g. BSA, illness or personal circumstances), enrolment, terminating enrolment, admission and graduating, study choice (bachelor), planning and motivation, as well as how to study and taking exams
  • Financial support: Support in applying for a student grant from private funds, information on tuition fee exemption, requesting grants for board membership and financial support for personal circumstances.
  • Problems with your faculty (information and advice on complaints, objections and appeals.
  • Personal conditions: For example, if you participate in elite sports, have a functional impairment, are pregnant/a studying parent or if you are a young caregiver.

Student Life Officer

Zera Brink, the Student Life Officer, can help you find answers to questions related to the practicalities of living in Rotterdam. Her team is also there to help you settle into your new (social) life and will plan monthly events and activities for you and your fellow students. Zera is also there to help you with practical matters. Throughout the year, several workshops are given on topics that relate to living in the Netherlands.
